I am a teacher in Mathematics and IT and my Masters Degree is from Åbo Akademi University. In recent years i have developed a passion for developing material and teaching ideas in mathematics according to the student-centered teaching model.
I am the co-founder and author of “Ma.fi” (available in English, Swedish and Finnish), a digital math book for junior-high that follows student-centered teaching ideas. Ma.fi is quickly becoming popular in Finnish schools and even won “STV’s teaching award” in 2016.
Students must be active participants and take responsibility for their own learning. The teachers role is to be a mentor, someone who can introduce new problems, and someone who encourages students to develop skills like collaboration, technical competence and creativity. In 2017-2018 I proved that this way of working increases the interest in mathematics for the students, and because of this I won Teknologiateollisuuden 100-vuotiassäätiö’s “Teacher price”.
Sporadic blog where I express my opinions in the world of education and share my experiences in the classroom. I will mostly discuss student-centered teaching ideas and the use of technology in educational purposes, although I will probably comment on many other issues.
